I did not know of any baskets at a Mt. Sterling park. I had seen some baskets at a park in West Jefferson years ago. Did you mean W. Jeff? If it was Mt. Sterling, which park? The one in town?

Not sure where they are now, but there were 9 baskets in a circle about 150 feet apart in a open field right by kids ball field in town Mt. Sterling. Hopefully they are being used for an actual course, seemed like a wast of baskets where they were.

I knew who was behind that screen name. Good to hear from ya, wondered where you been. No return insult? I'm discappointed, but it's cool to hear you're still around, thought you might've moved. Still in Court House? Was hoping Nick (now from Cincy) had that course in at the Y, but haven't heard anything on that in years. Don't work Fayette Co. like I used to, but cruise thru routinely on the way to 'Natti. Congrats on the little one, they do tend to change one's lifestyle somewhat. Look forward to latchin up if you make it up this way. I'm same place, same number.

On a more positive note, I stopped in at Mt. Sterling today (was working Deer Creek) and those baskets will be back in soon. They're also building a new water plant back there, so that will change the configuration of the course a bit. They said they don't get a lot of players and would like to see more use, maybe one of our locals could adopt the course, they could use some help and publicity. The contact is Joe Johnson, he's the village admin., seemed like a cool cat, he's at 740 869 2040 x112. Email is JoeVillageMt.Sterling@yahoo.com I also got the impression they'd like to lay some asphalt pads, and could use help clearing out some fairways. Do we have any locals living in that area? I'd be willing to travel for a work day or two. Not sure how much property is out there and how big the footprint is for their new plant, but we can find that out easy enough.

yeah, dude needs some help, noble as his intentions may have been. did you drive by the park where they were? on 207 just outside of town, on the way to deer creek. flat grass field. i know what he was going for based on this article. www.columbusmessenger.com/NC/0/3401.htmlbut i could see the demographic being doubtful of the fun factor by the simplicity of the layout.

Nice link, gives some good backstory. Geared toward family, that's why it's so short. Never heard of Youngblood, and the village admin. obviously has changed. I did drive by the park and had my bag w/me, was hoping to get nine in at lunch, to no avail. Perhaps they'd be willing to change the layout and get some pro's in there, might get more use. I mentioned to Joe making two tees for each basket for an 18 holer, which is what's happened at Sycamore church in Picktown.

you had to have seen the lack of trees and elevation in the park. i'm not sure, cause i havent been there in a while, but the terrain at the mt sterling rec center may be a better spot.

Sure. It's a small park in a very small town. Not sure how many choices they had, not sure where the rec center is. It's mostly a baseball park, they probably had about 5 diamonds or so, and it's ideal for that. Just not that ideal for disc golf. Obviously, they are limited w/respect to public land and where they can put the course. Sounds like they may have at least one other option w/the rec center tho.

There's a small woods behind their wastewater treatment plant on SR 56, east of town and south of SR 56, but not sure who owns it and it's a bit small anyhow, maybe a nine could go there. Wonder if they'd be willing to sell/trade w/the Lancaster crowd.....although I think they want to keep them.
