Played there yesterday after a long hiatus. I hadn't been there in a while either. I thought course condition was overall decent (for no club or pro overseeing things), but a couple of non locals have told me they thought it was in bad shape. (1 basket, 12 basket, some other basket, and down trees) I've never been a big fan of the design (trip boards on tees, lack of beginner friendliness-I mean it was the first course in town-,using a creek for fairways, mixed use trails-came close to whacking a horserider on one of my first trips out there, prolly my fault tho, I had no idea horses were allowed to be there, shoulda read up on rules b 4 playin). Lots of multiflora/invasive/thorny shiite on some portions too, but there's other portions that are really nice mature woods w/little understory due to the canopy of the large trees. I do like the remoteness, it's usually very quiet out there, nice elevation changes, and it's on the right side of Chilli for my drive-40 mins (round trip) closer than OUC. I also like that nine comes back to the parking lot. It's a great canvas to design a course, and it was one of the first (maybe THE first) one in a state park (Maybe Forked Run was 1st). That helped to open up doors for the courses we now see in other state parks. Anyhow, some of the Flatrockers were thinking of donating some time for improvements. I've always found it odd that someone (local) didn't really take it over, but the course is kinda hard (relative to others nearby), and now OUC is right in town and it's easier (ie-beginner friendly). Plus the guy who built it got out of golf and moved away. Towns that size may be a one course town, at least ones this far north. The club is about to install another course here in Lancaster, but I'm not sure the town can support two courses, and although Flatrocks is more crowded that it used to be, it's nothing like Griggs on a nice Sat. afternoon. The club is pretty active here, so I don't think we'll end up w/a neglected course, and I personally have no problem w/a low trafficked course, although that's not a goal of most parks. Hard to argue that more courses are not good, but I have played some neglected courses in other states-I've also played some courses in bad or dangerous areas, we don't have that issue around here. Overall, I thought the course was in OK shape and it was really quiet and pretty out there early in the morning. Had a good time, and met a nice local (who would benefit from an easier course at this stage in his development). It's really nice out there and I think it's extremely cool that we play on what makes up the Seal of Ohio. Overall, I think it's a helluva fine course for my game.

Jim Toll and I hauled out 3 trash bags each a couple days before you guys went out there.
Also, Jim has been in contact with the parks department and they have given permission for concrete tees.
The problems being:
1. Chillicothe doesn't have a club to support the course.
2. Money.
3. Labor.

Sucks Hanson is going oob or is oob. If they are still good on ready mix in chilli I can almost guarantee a sponsorship. I'll ask at work tomorrow. My body is much older than the last time I played there and now know what you fogeys have been so upset about.
