Got hit by a car walking across a street. They life flighted him, to no avail. Was walking back from the Cabana Inn in Sarasota. The family moved to Sarasota a month ago. He just lost his dad this summer and that's where dad was. Mel used to babysit him, she knows his mom. Mom's pretty bummed. Mel passed along condolences (I think they're facebooking) from the disc golf community. There's been talk of a memorial tourny for him.
They're going to try to bury him in Sarasota National Cemetery, but if they can't do that they'll bring him here and bury him next to a buddy in Lancaster. He was a marine, but they've got to go through some kind of FBI check to be allowed in a National Cem.
No obit yet and no other plans at this time that I'm aware of. I think they're waiting on the feds to see where he goes.

Bryon Thomas SARASOTA, Fla. Bryon Keith Thomas, 41, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Lancaster, Ohio, died tragically and unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013. He moved to Florida to be the caregiver for his dad and best buddy, Steven R. Lynn, who passed away June 20, 2013. He remained in Sarasota to take care of his mother and to lead the family, a promise he made to his dad. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1990 before serving four years in the United States Marine Corps where he won multiple Good Conduct and combat recognition medals. He served in several duty stations around the United States and served tours in the Philippines, Malaysia and Somalia. He worked as a steel construction worker and welder by trade and was very well-respected by those who worked beside him, as well as those who worked for him when he began supervising jobs. Bryon was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and just be outdoors. He mastered creating delicious meals from his fish, deer and other game. He was happiest, however, when he was playing disc golf. He was a longtime member of the Flat Rocks Disc Golf Association, enthusiastically supporting the sport. He not only played in local tournaments and supported his home course (Flat Rocks in Lancaster) but also played in and promoted regional tournaments throughout the East Coast. He looked for courses everywhere he went. He is survived by a heartbroken, devastated and long list of family members and loved ones, including his mother, Beverly Lynn; sister, Michelle (Chad) Nungester; brother, Mike Lynn; sister, Sasha (Jarod Caldwell) Tucker; special nephew, Tyler (Kalee Troup) Hollingshead; special niece, Arianna Collins; and uncles, David Tignor and Curt Bailey, all of Sarasota. He is survived by his grandparents, Harold and Cleo Thomas; biological father, Harold (Butch) Thomas; sister, Stacey (Jimmy) Hudnall; brother, Tim Thomas; sisters, Heather, Holly and Heidi Thomas; brother, Ronnie Thomas; and uncle, Paul Smathers, all of the Athens, Ohio, area. He is survived by his grandmother, Doris Gaines; special nephew, Joshua Hollingshead; aunt, Barb (Jeff) Whittington; uncle, Mike (Tammy) Thomas; aunt, Louise (Jim) Callandra; special friend, Renae Thomas; and heart children, Jade and Corbin Messinger, all of the Lancaster area. He also is survived by special niece, Stephany Hollingshead; uncle, Steven (Judy) Tignor; aunt, Betty (George Cissell); uncle, John Lynn; numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and lifelong friends, Shad Lynds, Tony Fowler, Mardee Stover, Donna Fallon, Chad Tucker and Staci Dunn. Bryon was preceded in death by his dad, Steven R. Lynn, who left us only two and a half months ago. He also was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Thelma Tignor; aunt, Diana Smathers; cousin, J.C. Daubenmire; best friend, Flint Carter; and close family friends, Mike Mayes, Jeff Tucker and Lois Tucker. A private family funeral was held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in Sarasota. Bryon will be laid to rest with a gravesite service at Venice Memorial Gardens in Venice, Fla., at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. A procession will start at noon at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota. A celebration of life is being planned for Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bryons honor to the Flat Rocks Disc Golf Course Association or the Lancaster Disc Golf Alliance.
