Played Falling Creek Park front 9 today in Bedford Va. Long open fairways. Nice layout. Lots of elevation changes and WINDY!!! Tomorrow hopefully play in Richmond Va, then Fredericksburg and lastly in Stephens City. If time permits, I'll hit Whispering Pines in Maryland.
10/04/11 Started to play Pharoahs Tomb @ White Bank Park in Colonial Heights Va. Hole 1 played thru woods and marshy wet grounds(no rain here for at least 5 days!!) #2 started in marsh and finished in a picnic/shelter house area. #3 back thru picnic area and finished against parking lot. Pin was literally 2 feet from parking lot next to another shelter house. After 3 holes I decided not to finish, considering my car was 50 feet from me. If I were to rate this course based on these holes, I'd give it a 4 for the technical merit, as far as layout a big fat 0. Maybe I'd have different view if I would've finished. I'd rather not risk taking out someone with an errant drive or smashing a windshield. It was sunny and 75, and there were several people in the picnic area.
Oct 6. Loriella Park in Spotsylvania Va Front 9 before work. 6 of 9 were open. Most impressive #3. White tee 317' straight shot downhill thru woods. Fairway roughly 20' wide lined on both sides with pine trees and about 15' overhead clearance.
Sherando Park in Front Royal after work. Good mix of open and woods, lefty righty shots. Most impressed with #11. Good lefty or forehand. Shoot under tree branches over a valley about 175-200' then turn right for the last 100' or so. Must shoot low line drive due to branches overhead.
