Where to start?
It's a sure way to increase membership and dollars. Participation would not decline. Somebody asked me the other day why be a member. This way, it's good to be a member. Membership should have it's privileges. It would still be the cheapest doubles in the state.
Membership used to include a players party. It still includes 5 bucks off the two tournys the club throw (frosted and frenzy). This move would make up for lost benefits.
Shopping for sponsors. Sponsors are more likely to deal w/you if you have a larger membership base. More folks equals more sales in their eyes.

So the extra dollar would go to the club, not the winning pot of money?

I have to start with your second argument because it feels so much like something the government would say to taxpayers. You say that we used to have a club party and because the club no longer has a party we should charge non-members more money to make us feel like we are getting something, when what actually happened was that we lost a party.
I know that makes me feel better.
Your premise of "A sure way to increase membership and dollars" is a shaky statement. You are under the belief that people would pay more money (to purchase a membership) to avoid paying an extra dollar a week. Since we are wildly speculating,... I believe quite the opposite reaction of the player would be the end result. I believe that we would end up with less members and less Wednesday and Sunday players. OK now I guess I will try and support my wild speculation. More money = less participation. Hey that wasn't so complicated. So either way it will cost players who are not members of the club, more money to play doubles. I assure you, that won't go over well with everyone. I shudder to think of what Wildman will say, in a full voice, in the middle of a crowd of people when this price increase idea is floated.
I don't believe it is wise to use extortion to convince players to join a club. Either raise the cost to everyone to play, or prepare for it to all end in tears.

name me another club that runs dubs and doesn't take a buck or more for the club (that's why this is the cheapest dubs in the state-and at $4, it's still the cheapest in the state) Eventually, folks will get over it. Even Keith.
